Mixed-use urban residential project centered around a courtyard.
This project comprises 4 residential buildings and a retail space for a supermarket, situated above an underground parking garage. The various buildings complete an urban block and frame a collective, centrally located, and naturally landscaped outdoor space at ground level. The three streets surrounding the block are quite distinct from one another. Each building responds to the urban environment of its respective street in terms of scale, articulation, and residential typology. The buildings facing the courtyard are organized around a collective gateway, creating an informal passage at the neighborhood level.
Along the Plantin Moretuslei, two building volumes define the metropolitan boulevard. One building houses the supermarket, while the other provides access to the green, communal courtyard through a double-height gateway. On the Rolwagenstraat, the project forms an urban wall along the backbone of the Zurenborg district. In the Magdalenastraat, the project integrates seamlessly with the refined architecture of the neighborhood's residential streets.
The residences vary depending on their location within the block. They are all characterized by a certain flexibility in their layout, allowing them to adapt to diverse living needs. The chosen construction and materials are simple and robust, yet applied with a keen eye for detail.
The project is being realized through a complex, phased execution in which the existing supermarket will be completely renewed and all surface parking on the site will be moved underground. The parking facility will serve a dual purpose as a neighborhood parking garage to reduce parking pressure in the adjacent Zurenborg district.
