We are HUB architecten, an architectural office located in Antwerp, Belgium, active in Flanders, Brussels, and the Netherlands. Since our founding in 2004, we have established a strong reputation by taking on complex commissions, unraveling apparent contradictions without being superficially goal-oriented. For us, this requires an investigative approach, with attention to both the large scale and the smallest detail.
We are convinced of the transformative power of well-designed spaces; not only to enhance the quality of life for their users but also to promote sustainable transitions and create new possibilities for future generations. This belief drives our search for the most generous and transparent answers to the challenges presented to us and shapes the concept of ‘intelligent’ space.

We relish engaging with complex challenges, applying the same level of care to large-scale public infrastructure (such as the Park & Rides around Antwerp), the sensitive renovation of heritage buildings (like the Palace of Justice in The Hague), or a small school pavilion in a park landscape.
Our projects are deliberately diverse, spanning a wide range of backgrounds, scales, and purposes. Our approach is project-specific, collaborative, and inquisitive. We question and challenge deeply held assumptions, and adopt a critical stance for the common good.
We favor bespoke, context-sensitive design over applying a pre-set formula. While every HUB project is a unique creation, all are united by a pragmatic belief in the meaningful, generous impact architecture can have on spaces, buildings, cities, landscapes—and above all, communities.

We believe that architecture always operates within a human, practical, and cultural context. No building or landscape exists in isolation.
‘Alles ist Umbau’—everything is transformation—and each project contributes a new chapter to an ongoing dialogue. Whether adding public value to a historic monument or creating shared space in a small Flemish village, our way of working is exploratory—patiently holding space for well-informed imagination.
Inspiration does not appear out of thin air; it is drawn from a project’s core essence and circumstances, from the challenges and facts it brings with it.

We act with balanced humility: making bold statements where needed, and stepping back when appropriate.
Our design ethos embraces ‘depth of field’: bringing the finest detail into focus while maintaining awareness of the bigger picture. In other words, we craft architecture that gives structure to urban contexts, and conceive urban projects grounded in an architectural and tectonic reality.
The built and unbuilt exist in dialogue, and the act of making is never far from our minds.

At its best, we believe that architecture combines both function and meaning, and creates lasting change for individuals and communities alike. This generosity can be expressed in various ways.
As a guiding principle, our designs strive to provide qualities that go beyond the client’s brief. This could be as simple as placing a bench exactly where the sun hits, encouraging people to gather, or ensuring a building’s position makes space for a thriving tree.
Generosity also extends a project’s relevance into the future. Inspired by the principle of the ‘good ancestor’, we design spaces that are resilient and adaptable to changing needs over time.
