Bluegate Antwerp (B).
Innovative business park leaves room for nature.
The Visual Quality Plan (BKP) we created for the sustainable transition of this brownfield, is a deepening of the Master Plan drawn up by the Environment Group in 2011. In addition, the image and quality of life of Blue Gate Antwerp must be boosted and consolidated, without compromising the core objectives of the master plan. These are: sustainable and innovative activity, eco-effectiveness, optimal use of water-related potential, high spatial quality, and market-based project development.
Eco-effectiveness was used as the denominator for the identity, image and quality of life of Blue Gate Antwerp. Principles of economical and multiple use of space, biotope reinforcement and the creation of sustainable connections thus form the basis of the design guidelines for the future development of the landscape and buildings.
The deepening of the Master Plan, and the BKP, are located at two levels: at the building blocks level and at the structural level. At the structural level, we reorganize the master plan in function of a symbiosis between the hydrological structure, topography, (highly contaminated) soil situation, infrastructure, buildings and heritage. The symbiosis consists in a strong structure of open spaces — the corridor and the wadis — in which an ecologically diversified landscape can be created; and densely built clusters that create free space for economic development. In the edges of Blue Gate with the adjacent Hobokense Polder nature reserve, the buildings support a landscape transition.
The BKP was drawn up in two gradients: a binding part and a guiding part. The first lays down design principles and forms the basis for the BKP. This basis becomes part of the management charter and thus forms a guiding tool for issuance policy. The guiding part provides space for innovation and experimentation. It is driven by the long-term ambition to promote eco-effectiveness as Blue Gate Antwerp's DNA, even in the long term, increasingly. To do this, we are investigating forms of guidance and “sponsorship”.

Images/videos are always set to 4 or 6 columns wide.
Within a 'Project', two additional sizes are used:
- Full-screen image (all columns)
- Carousel (8 columns)
A maximum of 2 images or videos can be on the same row, with at least 1 column of space between them.
'Panels' always accompany corresponding content and never stand alone.
Only one 'Panel' can be attached to each row.

The abandoned Petroleum Zuid, characterised by soil pollution and flooding problems, is being developed into Blue Gate: a sustainable, innovative and bimodal (water and road) business and research park.
The landscape strips — with the green corridor as the most important — are responsible for water management and ecological reinforcement. They consist of a combination of wadis and permanent wet zones.
In addition, they organize the soft traffic connections.

Blue Gate Antwerp functions as a 'missing link' for making a good ecological and landscape connection between the Hobokense Polder, the river landscape of the Schelde and the Groene Singel Antwerp.
